| May 30, 1947 Darling: Got your special delivery yesterday afternoon, and was sorry to find that you -- you hale and hearty little bundle of loveliness -- have contracted my ailment. Still waiting for the ring size -- since I don't want to go to the jewellers to get my size until I get yours -- so that 1 can see about your ring at the same time. Had a hundred things planned to do today, but when I had made half the rounds -- list in hand -- with no results, I suddenly realized that this was a holiday. People are lined up for blocks around for a parade; it 1s very cold out, but the dunces just sit there and smile -- waiting to be lifted to the peak of enthusiasm by some colored cloth and stern faces in a parade. I saw the Bursar yesterday about my bills here, and although he pushed for a settlement before June 30th, I didn't commit myself. Told him I would see the Dean and try to have him recommend to the agency here that they give me a loan to settle up. Failing that, I told him I'd have to ask that he postpone the bill until the fall. That will clear up one way or the other, so we can stop being concerned about it. Be sure and let me know soon, when to expect you on Saturday (or rather, a wesk from tomorrow). If it's late, go ahead and figure on it being late -- don't give me an optimistic report; because there will be a lot of things for me to do here. Ok? |
